Description

Queer Screen, founded in 1993, is Australia’s premier LGBTQIA+ film organisation. Based in Sydney, it presents two major annual festivals—the Mardi Gras Film Festival in February and the Queer Screen Film Fest in August.


Queer Screen also delivers a range of industry initiatives, including the Australian short film competition My Queer Career (est. 1993), Queer Screen’s Completion Fund, and the short film pitching competition Pitch Off.

&PROUD organises cultural events for the LGBTIQ community in Myanmar. Established in 2014, it now presents a number of yearly events: 

  • &PROUD Yangon LGBT Film Festival – A 6-day pride festival drawing over 10,000 visitors every January, featuring Asian queer films, debates, parties, exhibitions, and performances. 
  • &PROUD Mandalay – The smaller sister festival of the Yangon edition, held annually. 
  • Rainbow Reels – A yearly filmmaking workshop for young Myanmar queer filmmakers, producing three or more short films each year. 
  • &PROUD Photo – An annual photo competition and exhibition held in Yangon in May. 
  • &PROUD On The Road – A touring program bringing queer films to universities and towns across Myanmar for special screenings.

The Taiwan International Queer Film Festival (TIQFF), founded in Taipei in 2013, will celebrate its 13th edition in 2025.


Over the past decade, TIQFF has become one of the most influential LGBTQ+ film festivals in Asia, dedicated to showcasing queer cinema from Taiwan and across the region. 


Positioning film as both a space for artistic innovation and a catalyst for cultural dialogue, the festival will, under the 2025 theme “Queer Heterotopia of Happiness,” spotlight underground, experimental, animated, and comedic works,  presenting diverse forms of queer aesthetics.

The Wairoa Māori Film Festival was established in 2005 to celebrate the best in Indigenous, Pacific, and Māori filmmaking.

The festival has a strong Takatāpui (LGBTQ) strand and has presented Māori Pride showcases in Auckland and Wellington.

WMFF is also the co-curator of the short film programme Ngā Whanaunga of the New Zealand International Film Festival.

Established in 2017, the Hanoi International Queer Film Week(HIQFW) is the biggest and only legally permitted international LGBTQ film festival in Vietnam.

Over the years, HIQFW has become a significant queer cultural event, fostering greater awareness and understanding of LGBTQ issues and contributing to the country’s growing acceptance of diversity.

Since 2019, HIQFW has presented The Queer New Wave Award, the festival’s official prize recognizing outstanding achievements in queer cinema.

Across two award seasons(2019 and 2025), a total of 12 awards have been presented.

Having traveled extensively to festivals such as Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, Locarno, and Busan, his films seek to give cultural minorities a voice in world cinema. Working primarily with filmmakers on their first and second features, his filmography includes Renoir(2025, Cannes Film Festival, Main Competition) by Chie Hayakawa, 10s Across the Borders(2025, Busan International Film Festival, Wide Angle Documentary Competition) by Sze-Wei Chan, and Honey, My Love, So Sweet(2025, Locarno Film Festival, Short Film Competition) by JT Trinidad.
