Programmer’s Recommendation:

Queerpanorama

The Asia PRIDE section presents a rich selection of queer films from across Asia. Each film reflects the realities of its time while capturing sharp, socially conscious perspectives.

Through these works, audiences encounter the lives of sexual minorities from Asian societies that share cultural similarities with Korea. This year’s lineup includes films from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Stories of LGBTQ individuals unfolding within diverse social and cultural contexts across Asia will offer audiences a deeply resonant and distinctive viewing experience.

Queerpanorama by Jun LI(Director) examines the fluid boundaries between desire and identity through the inner world of a man whose sense of self begins to fragment. The film follows a young gay man who engages in anonymous encounters with partners he meets online. Gradually, he begins to imitate the speech, names, and habits of his previous partners—borrowing fragments of their identities each time he meets someone new, and reshaping himself in the process. Through stark black-and-white cinematography and a restrained visual style, Jun LI(Director) portrays the protagonist’s disintegration of identity with chilling poetry. With its experimental narrative structure and minimalist direction, the film stands out as a remarkable work that expands the emotional and formal horizons of queer cinema.

The Asia PRIDE section invites audiences to experience the diversity of queer lives across Asia, share in their struggles and joys, and celebrate the creative voices of talented Asian filmmakers.
