Special Section - the 20th anniversary of the founding of Chingusai

Chingusai, a Korean organization founded in February of 1994 for the sexual minorities’ rights movement, has its origins in ‘Chodong-hoe,’ which was founded in1993. Chingusai was created to vouch for sexual minorities’ rights and to create a non-discriminative world, and was Korea’s very first organization dedicated to the movement. The fact that this organization’s history is in-step with the history of Korea’s sexual minorities’ rights movement signifies the organizations persistence amidst the inadequacies and difficulties of the movement’s early stages. The concurrence is also significant because it indicates that the history and outcomes of the movement are deemed worthy of acknowledgement both inside and outside of the sexual minority communities. In order to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding of Chingusai, the Seoul LGBT Film Festival will present the queer films that the organization has contributed to the productions of during the past years.
